I used to shave with a DE and brush and creme from Boots The Chemist when I lived in England in my early 20's. Somehow, I was seduced by the Gillette multi-blade sets. I have recently purchased the Merkur 34c and I love it. Experimenting with various cremes and soaps (Proraso, Cella) and blades (Merkur and Israeli Crystal). No clear favorites, but I'm having fun trying them. Should have done this eons ago. I get such a close, comfortable shave with this razor. No irritation. Well built. Highly recommended.

    Very Comfortable Shave, 12.7.2011

I bought this razor about a month ago and I really like it. Kinda nervous at first, thought I would really cut myself up. Not a single scratch so far. My girlfriend loves it, says my shave is 10x better than all the other shaving blades I've tried. Shaving is a little slower but a lot more fun. I have a heavy beard and should have done this a long time. Still experimenting with various blades, but so far the Merkur refills are the best. Easy to use, comfortable in my hand, fantastic results, really worth a try. Not the cheapest, but very affordable...

I recieved my 34c today and i went 3 days without shaving for the occasion. While i was waiting for it to come in the mail i watched youtube vids on how to shave with a DE that way i had an idea how to use it instead of goin in without an idea and hack my face up. All i can say about the Merkur 34C is wow!. This is my first time using it and i had zero razor burn. Thats a huge statement considering i have very sensitive skin. I nicked myself a couple times but that was because i dont have the technique quite all the way yet. Im 21 and im proud i discovered this lost art of shaving rather than being 30-40 and have gone all that time with a cartridge razor. Goodbye fusion proglide, never again. This is just my first time shaving with the Merkur and it just gave me the best shave ever. A good lather and solid technique is key with the merkur. AMAZING!!!

Off all the fancy 3 blade/5blade razors out there from Gillette and so forth, this one does just as neat, if not better job! And it's so much dang cheaper too. Call me a believer.

I'm over fifty and, gosh, how I wish I had started with a DE razor in my youth! That said, I did fifteen hours of research prior to buying a DE razor and couldn't be happier with the Merkur 34C. The 34C is the best priced razor for my limited budget. I have a normal beard and just the weight of the razor falling across my face (using Feather blades) gives me a baby-skin smooth result. Do not press the razor into your skin; that's a bad habit from the disposable brands. Take your time and let the razor's weight and the Feather blade to the work. Enjoy.

My wife let me purchase this razor for this past Christmas(2010). The Merkur HD 34C feels great in my hands, excellent balance! I stand 5'9" and medium sized hands. This razor feels like I should have had it 20 years ago when I first started shaving on a daily basis. I enjoy the ease of use, ease of cleaning, and the shaving experience that this razor has given me!!!

My wife surprised me with the Merkur 34C, blades, brush, shaving cream and stand. I watched my grandfather use this razor (or one like it) growing up and could not wait until the day I could shave! Well, that has been a long time now, and I have always hated shaving, until my wife gave me this set up like my grandfather had. I actually enjoy shaving now! All of the equipment is well made and works like you hope it will! |

I bought this as my first DE razor and have used it for a month and half now and love every shave. I defiantly enjoy the weight of it in my hand and while ive never held a regular merkur im almost sure I would prefer the HD. |

The Merkur HD 34C is excellently crafted. When you look at it and hold it, you will know what I'm talking about. It gives a great shave too. I use Derby blades with it. I highly recommend this razor. |

I have been absolutely amazed, astonished, and impressed by the fantastic shave I experienced with my new Merkur HD, Chrome Plated, 34C razor and the Merkur blade. I'm a 75 year old gent with the soft, sagging skin that comes with age and had used a Gillette double blade razor for more years than I can remember. Not only did the Merkur glide smoothly over my skin but it gave me the closest shave imaginable, without any nicks or cuts. It's in a league all by itself- incomparably better than my old Gillette. In addition to its effectiveness, it is a work of precision, mechanical art and has a nice heft and grip. I recommend it without any reservations.

This is an excellent double edge starter razor. Not too aggressive, not too mild, and delivers a great shave. I've given this as a gift twice now to people just gettting interested in double edge wet shaving. Both continue to use it and claim to love their new shaving rituals. |

I'm 41 and my very first shave with a DE razor was my dad's razor many years ago. I learned on a DE, but soon switched to the disposables. I don't know what took me so long to get back to a DE razor.
My first shave with the 34c was on a 6 day beard. Needless to say, I was forced to shave slowly, but once I was finished I had the smoothest shave I have had in years. And not a single nick or cut.
The next day, the shave was at full speed and was even smoother than the day before. Very stoked on the razor and I doubt I will ever go back to disposables.

I received this razor two weeks ago and I've only knicked myself twice. This is a fantastic razor; all of the positive reviews about this being a great razor for first-timers were right. I'm using Wilkinson Sword Blades as I had seen many favorable reviews about them as well. Great Blades-Great Razor.

I bought this razor as the answer to buying replaement catridges all the time and found it to be so much more. The shave is great, refills are inexpensive and it looks much better in the stand on the sink than the cheapo plastic disposables. Can't go wrong with this razor. A++++

I've owned a Merkur HD 34C for three years. I use it for my face and my head (bald). I absolutely swear buy this model. This is the best double edge shaver available today. With the right blade selection, quality soap and a little practice, you will achieve a squeaky-clean shave. For bald guys, here's my tip: First, don't rush. Soften head stubble with hot water. Use Merkur blades that are a little dulled down from a week or so from face-shaving. Lather head with soap and brush. Use slow, front-to-back 30 degree strokes. Re-lather and repeat if needed. Shave more cautiously on your neck. Last, condition the scalp/neck before and after your head shave with soothing balm or lotion. Have fun shaving and saving $$$!
