I just wrote an opinion on the Pils, which I bought thinking it might be an improvement over this razor. My dad bought my first slant blade for me over 30 years ago and up until a few months ago still used the same razor. Under pressure from my wife I bought the Pils due in part to asthetics: again, big mistake. Comparing the fancy $240 dollar razor to my slant blade is night in day. My 30 year old slant blade tears through my heavy 3-day beard like butter while the Pils clumsily takes several awkward passes.
This razor is like good scotch. If it works don't fix it; If you like it don't change. If you got a heavy beard and are not afraid of a close shave then nothing compares to this. |

If I could only have one razor, this would be the one. Think of shaving as progressive wood sanding. You don't sand bare wood with super fine sandpaper, but a low grit. This razor is the low grit sandpaper, and is ideal for the long or thick whiskers. The razor doesn't clog and shaves effortlessly. The razor looks unsafe, but I can even use this razor on my head without cuts!
If you have thick, long, or stiff whiskers, this razor is #1.

I learned to shave with an old Schick (iirc) DE in about 1974. Cut myself to ribbons many times before I got it down. In an effort to reduce my shaving costs I decided to give what worked for my Dad and Granddad for many years, the double edged safety razor, a revisit. After I ordered the HD Slant I took the time to learn more about it and was worried I'd again cut myself to ribbons. Not to be! I only cut myself once and it was clearly my fault, I got a little too close to my ear. Oops! One pass was closer than my best shave ever with the Gillette Fusion. On my first attempt no less! No irritation and very satisfying. I'm sold!

I have a tough beard and it usually takes multiple passes WTG, XTG, ATG with some touch up buffing. This razor sits at such an angle that it slices through the whiskers, much like a guillotine, instead of chopping through it like an ax. The result is an easier, smoother shave with fewer passes. The blade is a little more prominent than with my other DE so I have to be careful about the pressure. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

After trying both Merkur Slant Bars, this version and the longer handled 39c, I came to the conclusion that with such an aggressive razor, the 39c was too heavy and I need more control. This fit the bill and I found a razor for life. !

This razor ROCKS!! I used it once so far with a Gillette Platnium blade and it made short work of my thick beard while still going easy on my sensetive skin.
Thanks Royal Shave for making these great poducts availiable.

Have owned this one for 15 years. It still works well. The shine is still like new. Itis easy to clean. For inside shaft ust q-tip.

I use the 34c for my everyday shaves, but when I need a very smooth, close shave I reach for this aggressive, yet gentle razor. It gets me the smoothest irritation-free shaves without having to touch up, or blade buff. |
