This 6/8" full hollow razor, a Dovo classic since the early 1900s, has been tastefully modernized with a Solingen Perlex inlay across the composite handle. The blade is made from high carbon steel, hand-filed with heavy gold plating, and retains the integrity of craftsmanship that has made Dovo the world's premier manufacturer of straight razors.

I've been shaving with this razor for some time now and it just plain rocks! I especially like the 6/8 blade as it is much more forgiving than a smaller razor. Blade quality is great, it's easy to sharpen (I use the Naniwa 3000 and 8000 stones) and holds its edge for a long time. I only use the stones about every 3 months and the rest of the time I strop before shaving. The scales are attractive and the inlay looks nice too. Overall, this is a great entry level razor!

Even though Dovo's are advertised as shave-ready "out of the box," I have not found that to be completely accurate. I always make sure a new straight razor I order is hand-honed. With that assumption, this razor is a class-leader. Bismarck was one of the great old Solingen brands and then was acquired by Dovo. The scales are beautiful, adding an enormous amount of pleasure to using this razor. But well-honed, this razor is pure delight to use. Many beginners find the heavier blade easier to control. It is certainly easier to "let the blade do the work" than smaller blades. The heavy blade can, however, prove not as nimble and you do need to realize it is harder to "stop" if your stroke goes awry! This razor holds its edge very nicely, needing only stropping once it's professionally hand-honed. Most new shavers pick up a cheaper Dovo to start with, then pick a second razor once they know what they're doing: this is an excellent choice for that second, or special razor.
