This was my first shaving brush, and from the reviews, I expected it to be like rubbing my face with needles. But, I thought, that's what I get for being cheap. I have been using it every other day for a month now and I am pleasantly surprised. I recommend soaking in hot water before making your lather, leaving it in while you shower to really load the brush and soften the bristles somewhat. The brush spreads nice and wide and the slightly stiffer bristles manage to work the lather around the hair and get that nice polka-dot pattern that indicates the hair is in the shaving cream, not under it. It's not pure or silver tipped badger hair, but it also isn't terrible and would make a fine budget starter brush or travel brush.
