Calani Cadre Noir shaving soap, 9.18.2011

I would say the Cadre Noir is a beautifully-scented soap, and although the scent lingers for a while after a shave, it's not so serious. The lather is easy to get going, although it is necessary to know the water/soap ratio to get ideal results. It also leaves my skin feeling very comfortable and protected after a shave. Now, for a few words in German to Cathy, the owner of the company which produces this soap. Cathy, ich sehr stolz von Dir, weil Du ganz tolle Seifen hast!

    Classic Havana, 9.10.2011

This soap is in a word, outstanding. It consistently makes a rich creamy (and stable) lather time after time and leaves my skin silky smooth after shaving. Long lasting too. The Havana scent is outstanding, had the Dubai prior to this and found it a little too powdery but Havana is just right. |

I bought the Calani Highland Honey soap based largely on other reviews, and was excited to use it. Unfortunately the scent turned out to far stronger than I expected. That wouldn't be a big problem except that I'm not that wild about the smell - it does smell like honey but there is a strong secondary medicinal smell that bothers me. As far as performance goes it is an average soap. It lathers up easily enough, but doesn't provide as slick or smooth a shave as many other soaps I've tried. I will keep it in my rotation, but it's not a soap I'll replace when it runs out.

This soap has to be my favorite soap and it has no tallow. It beats Trumper easily. The ingredient list is super skin friendly and the lather easy to build nice and thick yet moist. And the scents are nothing short of amazing, subtle but impressive. SWMBO absolutely loves the Highland Honey so that is my recommendation as one to get. I used an anchor hocking to store my puck in and taped the front of the box on the lid and it works great.

After sampling a variety of shaving soaps over the past year and recently trying these two from Calani, I’m suddenly unsure I'll go back to anything else. While I wasn't thrilled with the scents directly out of the box, once I gave them a lather (which by the way is excellent) the smells evolved into something almost addictive. Now I have to smell the bowls I store them in every time I walk into our bathroom! |

Wow!! What a great soap this is. Very enjoyable scent described as Irish Honey, I really enjoy this scent. This soap gives a great lather, very slick and protective. I am planning on trying the Dubai scent also. Should be great.
