Been straight razor shaving for a little over a year now and have picked up the concepts of straight razor shaving pretty fast. After a while, I found the two straights I had purchased when I started just didn't quite shave like out of the box "Professional Honed," razor should which if you're just starting off please purchases one that has been professional hone in order from being discouraged. Well over the course of a year, I have purchased several hones in an attempt to bring my razors back up to par. Before purchasing one of the Naniwa 12k I did my research and have to say all of the claims are true. This is truly a hone that was made for the straights in my opinion my only regret is that I didn't purchase it sooner. I would highly recommend Naniwa 12k to any advanced or novice straight razor users. Oh, just FYI for all you new bees including myself all that is need is about 5-10 strokes maybe 10-20 if it's stainless to refresh a dull razor this stone cuts fast.

If you buy your razors from a merchant who includes professional hand-honing, this might be the only hone you ever need. A lot of professional honemeisters use the Naniwa 12K as a finishing hone to polish the bevel, giving the razor a shave that is smooth as well as sharp. The stone cuts fast, and I find a "tired" razor that is pulling can be brought back with about 5-10 laps on this hone. Unlike other water hones, it does not need to be soaked prior to use. You can use a spray bottle to wet the hone as you go. I rarely use my barber hones now, but keep the Naniwa 12K in the bathroom to give any razor a needed touch up. I also hone vintage razors from setting the bevel upwards, and find this to be an outstanding finishing stone.

Very pleased with this product. After a little bit of lapping, it is like honing on glass.
